A question I am often asked and I am sure my colleagues in the Commercial Photographers Network will be the same, is: “do you take lots of photos on your holidays?” Mostly for me the answer is usually no. Working as a commercial photographer often requires careful planning with regards to weather forecasts and arriving at a particular location at the right time of day, so a holiday for me is a chance to get away from these constraints.
With the particularly settled summer this year, however, I decided to take an island hopping trip to the Western Isles, which is in the far west of the area that I cover for the CPN. This trip allowed me to travel from Barra in the South to Lewis in the north with a view to capturing library of beautiful and interesting images on my way.
Unlike a holiday, this allowed me to be in the right locations at the right time, to capture the beauty of the area with a view to having timeless images that may be of use to clients in the future.
I have already supplied images to Highlands and Islands Airport Authority of the airport in Barra, which is the only airport in the world where scheduled flights use a beach as the runway!
Many of the members of the CPN have their own stock of local images and we cover the whole of the country, so if you need local images for any reason then get in touch, it’s highly likely that we can help.
