As a professional photographer, CPN member Roddy Paine has had the privilege of capturing many unique moments and events.
Tasked with documenting an event that marked a significant milestone in 5G technology, he was ready to face the challenges and capture the essence of this occasion.
The aim was to showcase the groundbreaking potential of 5G and highlight the proposed merger between Vodafone UK and Three UK. The event was designed to demonstrate the faster, more comprehensive 5G rollout across the country and its benefits.
The event took place at the Thames Terrace at the Houses of Parliament, London. The client’s brief was comprehensive. They needed general views of the event space, both wide and tight shots of the demonstration stands, and images capturing stakeholders and Vodafone staff engaging with the technology. The requirement was for a mix of naturalistic and posed photographs.
The event was held in a small marquee, an intimate space with mixed tungsten and daylight LED lighting. The main challenge was navigating through a crowd in a confined area, making it difficult to capture the desired shots. By employing a wide-angle lens and judicious use of fill-in flash, Roddy managed to overcome these obstacles and capture natural interaction at the event.
For this shoot, Roddy relied on his trusty Nikon DSLR, coupled with an on-camera flash. This setup allowed for the flexibility and spontaneity needed in such a dynamic environment.
The images were well-received, with the client commenting, “They are excellent! Thank you so much for your help last night.”
