The construction of wind farms and other types of industrial or commercial installations benefit from hiring a professional photographer.

Commercial Photographers Network member for Inverness Ewen Weatherspoon visited Dorenell Wind Farm in the North East of Scotland to photograph its progress.

Construction workers on top of a wind turbine

The client wanted to capture photographs of the construction of the turbines to show examples of environmental improvements to the local community.

The brief also highlighted the need to capture key personnel who had brought the project to fruition. This also gave the opportunity for environmental portraits on location.

Photographers working on construction sites such as wind farms have to work very quickly with the minimum of equipment as time is very precious, and there is little time for people to stop work for a photograph.

Fortunately, CPN members like Ewen have a lot of experience working in similar environments. For the location portraits, Ewen carried some portable lights to help highlight the people and make them stand out.

Aerial view showing complete Wind Farm

On completion of the site, the client also wished to have aerial photography showing the whole site. Commercial drones are often used these days for aerial photography, but as they are legally limited to fly below 400 feet, a small aircraft was used on this occasion.

If you are involved in a similar wind farm or other type of construction project there is a CPN photographer near you to help document your project.

Please feel free to contact the CPN whether for one location or across the UK.
