It’s surprising just how many clients have been searching for commercial photographers throughout the UK during the crisis, from Inverness in Scotland to Poole and Plymouth in the South of England.

Commercial Photographers Network member for Inverness Ewen Weatherspoon had the ultimate social distancing shoot, which involved him having to photograph a repair to the water main under the Kessock Bridge.
The job took skilled rope access workers a whole morning, giving Ewen time to seek out viewpoints on both sides of the Beauly Firth. As the action was happening in the middle of the bridge, a long telephoto lens was needed to capture the action, ensuring there were no social distancing issues on the shoot. Fortunately, all the Commercial Photographers Network members have similar equipment, which means they can carry out this type of work through the UK.

In Poole, CPN member Carl Wilson has been doing product photography for a number of clients. One of his new clients who required product photography of her new business which makes reusable drinks bottles and straws.
Working from his studio, Carl didn’t have any problems with social distancing, as the products were just posted to him, thus avoiding any direct contact with the client during the lockdown period.

Another regular client wanted Carl to photograph clothing for a running club, called the Lonely Goat Running Club. This has been quite a growing market as people have been wanting to exercise outdoors.

CPN member for Plymouth Tony Cobley has also been doing product photography in between stints volunteering for his local community. Allies of Nature, a new start business, selling flower essences to promote essential wellbeing, needed good product photography to help sell their products online.
As with his colleague Carl, he was easily able to social distance by having the products posted to him. He also used gloves to handle the products as an extra precaution. You can read more about this shoot on his own blog here:

Although things are starting to ease a bit across the country, it looks as though some elements of social distancing will be in place for a while. Fortunately, there are still a lot of photography shoots that can be carried out by the Commercial Photographers Network’s members throughout the UK.
