In our latest blog, Commercial Photographers Network member for Belfast Andrew Towe looks behind the scenes at Hi Res Panoramic Photography for Ulster Bank in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Following the successful completion of commercial photography for RBS and NatWest, the CPN (Commercial Photography Network) was commissioned to provide the same high quality, large file size panoramic photography for Ulster Bank both in Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland. These panoramic images would be used as whole wall coverings in the redesign and refit of branches throughout Ireland.

The aim of this project, as with RBS and NatWest, was to produce a collection of landscape or townscape panoramas representative of the locality of each Ulster Bank in Ireland. The high resolution panoramas were to be of local iconic scenes, buildings or areas recognisable and associated with the town or area in which the bank was located. The aim was to give each branch a local feel and help to connect it to the community.

Extensive research was undertaken to compile a list of iconic local scenes and landmarks within a radius of each branch. The purpose of this was to produce appropriate and eye catching imagery to enhance and complement the new interior design and refit of each branch.
In order to produce panoramic images of the standard and clarity expected, the weather conditions need to be taken into consideration. This work could only be completed on days with good sunlight and predominantly blue skies, which meant that we had to be ready to travel at a day’s notice in order to guarantee the correct conditions.

Early morning and late afternoon/evening light usually provide the best conditions for this type of photography. However each location had to be assessed as to the best time of day to achieve the desired result.
