On a three day shoot for EMJ Plastics, Birmingham CPN member Graham Oakes discovered that you have to take the rain with the sun.
Making the best of the situation is par for the course for Graham, being prepared for whatever the British weather will throw at him.
Some projects can’t wait for perfect conditions, so if the day is dark and rainy, then it can make for a gritty, realistic look that can really stand out.
As the products are in use on site its important that photographs get taken within a suitable timeframe – the pace of the project can’t be stopped to wait for the sun coming out. Having an experienced and prepared photographer available in all of the UK’s regions means you are assured of memorable and meaningful photographs that take advantage of the conditions on the day.

Fly by wire updates to the client, on a short break from shooting – Graham sends across a handful of “back of the camera” shots to ensure the right photographs are being taken, approval given and suggestions made before going back onto the construction site. Normally Graham can shoot tethered to his macbook for large scale previews, but not all technology is waterproof!
Graham gets all the relevant PPI gear on for his location photography at the Solihull section of the HS2 site and meets up with the client from EMJ Plastics at the main construction site office.
Products in situ, highlighting the use and usability of the clients plastic membranes in a bridge building construction project. HS2 is a multi million pound rail project to connect London and Birmingham and then further on to regions in the North.
