David Burrows covers the Manchester area, but also travels out to surrounding towns and cities such as Liverpool and Sheffield. This industrial photoshoot in Leicester was certainly a challenge.
The client needed professional quality images, to illustrate the day to day work done at the factory. While jet washing metal components is not the most glamourous of subject matters, they needed their business to look professional and well organized.
They also wanted to show the facilities that they could offer their customers such as a heavy lift overhead crane and the large pre-soaking tanks.
One of the things to overcome was water water everywhere! It didn’t help that it was pretty cold and damp as the shoot was done in February.
David could not use mains powered flash units because the risk of electrocution as water and mains electricity do not get on well.
The solution was a battery powered flash. Speedlight flash units were used with a 30 foot photography mast and a remotely controlled camera for the high level shots.
Even a jet washer can look good backlit.
The large catch of the day, removing pipes from the cleaning tank prior to the final rinse.

In the end, David did not get wet and the kit stayed dry but it did take a few hours for him to thaw out!
The client loved the pictures, which were far superior than what they had managed achieve to date.
